Southwest Crossing Community

#StrongerTogether

The Southwest Crossing Community neighborhood is located in Houston, Texas in District K. Our community was established in the Southwest Houston area in 1982. There are 402 homes and approximately 2,000 residents.

We are fighting against CenterPoint Energy's 300,000 gallon propane facility to protect the safety and welfare of our Southwest Houston communities, including the schools, churches, and business that would also be affected by this facility.

Our Story

In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a small number of our neighbors received LPG500A form notices from CenterPoint Energy and the Texas Railroad Commission telling them that a proposed peak shaving facility would be placed 500 feet behind their homes.

The community at large was not notified and most community members were completely unaware of the plan of CenterPoint Energy to place the 300,000 gallon propane facility in our community. Since August 2021, we have protested the construction and operation of this facility and have had little to no support from our local city officials such as District K Councilwoman Martha Castex-Tatum, Mayor Sylvester Turner and others.

Our community peace has been severely disrupted because of CenterPoint's propane facility and we are exceedingly concerned for the safety and well-being of our community members in our Southwest Houston area.

We are doing our best to voice the injustices happening at the hands of CenterPoint Energy and seek support in our fight. Our ultimate goal is to stop the operation of CenterPoint Energy's Lantana propane facility and have it removed from our community. As we continue to fight, we will continue to spread awareness to help other communities in hopes to prevent this terrible experience from happening to our Greater Houston area communities and communities across the globe.
